How Much Does a CRB Check Cost in Kenya? (2026 Pricing Guide)

The Free Annual CRB Report

Every Kenyan is legally entitled to one free CRB report per year from each of the three licensed bureaus (TransUnion, Metropol, CreditInfo). This is mandated under the Credit Reference Bureau Regulations. The free report is the same full credit report — not a summary or a lesser version.

To claim your free report, you must apply directly to the bureau — either online or in person — with your original National ID. The process may take several business days.

What Makes Paid Reports Worth More Than the Free One?

  • Convenience: You get the report instantly, any time, from your phone — not after days of processing
  • Frequency: You can check multiple times a year if needed — for example, before each major loan application
  • Format: Online service reports are often easier to read and understand than raw bureau reports
  • Speed: When you are negotiating with a lender, having your report in minutes matters

CRB Clearance Certificate Cost

A CRB clearance certificate (proof that you have no adverse listing) typically costs KES 2,200 – 4,000 and is issued directly by the bureau after verification. This is separate from a standard credit report and is mainly required for government tenders, employment clearance, or procurement purposes. See: How to Get a CRB Clearance Certificate.

Is a CRB Check Worth the Cost?

Absolutely. Spending KES 200–300 to know your credit status before applying for a loan worth tens of thousands — or hundreds of thousands — of shillings is one of the best financial decisions you can make. A rejected loan application can also temporarily lower your credit score. Checking first is always the smarter move.
