How to Check Your CRB Status Online in Kenya (Step-by-Step)

Why You Should Check Your CRB Status
Millions of Kenyans have their credit data stored in CRB databases without ever having looked at their own records. Your CRB report affects whether you can get a bank loan, a mobile loan, SACCO financing, or even a government tender. Yet most people only discover they have a problem when a loan application is rejected.
Proactively checking your CRB status gives you:
- Advance warning before applying for any credit
- The ability to spot and dispute errors
- Proof of good credit standing when negotiating with lenders
- Early detection of identity theft or fraudulent accounts
Method 1: Check Your CRB Online via CRB Checker Kenya (Recommended)
The fastest way to check your CRB status is through an online platform like crbchecker.co.ke. The entire process takes under 5 minutes and uses M-Pesa for payment — no bank account needed.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Visit crbchecker.co.ke/signup.php and fill in your details:
- First name and last name
- National ID number (required to match your CRB record)
- Safaricom M-Pesa number
- Email address
- Password (at least 8 characters)
Step 2: Select Your Report
After logging in, click "Check CRB Status". Choose your report type. The standard report gives you your credit score and full borrowing history.
Step 3: Pay via M-Pesa STK Push
Enter the M-Pesa number you want to pay from. An STK Push notification will appear on your phone. Enter your M-Pesa PIN (we never see it — the request comes directly from Safaricom). The payment is typically KES 200–300 depending on the package selected.
Step 4: View Your CRB Report
Within seconds of payment confirmation, your CRB report loads in your dashboard. You can view it online and download a PDF copy. The report is accessible for 30 days.
Method 2: Check Directly via the Credit Reference Bureaus
You can also request your CRB report directly from the three licensed bureaus. Every Kenyan is entitled to one free report per bureau per year.
TransUnion Kenya
Visit their My Credit portal online or go to their Nairobi office with your original ID. Free annual report available.
Metropol CRB
Metropol offers online and USSD (*433#) access to your credit score. First report is free; subsequent checks have a small fee.
CreditInfo Kenya
Visit their offices in Nairobi or contact them online. Free annual report available with original ID.
Note: Going directly to bureaus can take more time and may require physical visits or multiple steps. Online services like CRB Checker Kenya offer a faster, consolidated experience — particularly if you need results quickly.
What Does Your CRB Report Show?
When you receive your report, here is what to look for:
- Credit Score: A number indicating your overall credit risk level (higher is better)
- CRB Status: "Clear" or "Listed" — the key indicator most lenders check first
- Credit Facilities: All your current and past loans — amounts, lenders, status
- Adverse Accounts: Any defaulted loans, write-offs, or court orders
- Repayment History: Month-by-month record showing on-time vs. late payments
- Enquiries: List of lenders who have recently checked your report
What Do You Do After Checking Your CRB?
Based on what you find:
- If your status is Clear: Great! Save or download the report for future loan applications. This is proof of good credit standing.
- If you have a negative listing: Identify which loan is causing it and contact the lender. See our guide: How to Clear a Negative CRB Listing.
- If you see an error: Lodge a dispute with the CRB and the lender. See: How to Dispute a Wrong CRB Listing.
- If you see unfamiliar loans: This may be identity theft. Report immediately to the DCI and the CRB. See: Preventing Fraudulent CRB Listings.
