Digital Lenders

Which Digital Lenders in Kenya Report to CRB? Full 2026 List

Updated April 2026 • 8 min read

The CBK Digital Credit Provider Framework

Before September 2022, Kenya's mobile lending sector was largely unregulated — apps could lend money, collect data from your phone, and report (or not report) to CRBs without any oversight. This changed when the Central Bank of Kenya Act (Amendment) 2021 gave CBK authority over Digital Credit Providers (DCPs).

All DCPs must now:

  • Obtain a CBK DCP licence
  • Submit positive and negative credit data to at least one licensed CRB
  • Comply with the Data Protection Act 2019
  • Disclose fees and charges clearly upfront

As of April 2026, CBK has licensed over 50 digital credit providers in Kenya.

Lenders That Previously Did NOT Report (But Now Do)

Before the 2022 CBK framework, many apps operated without CRB reporting obligations. Several lenders that have since been licensed and are now reporting include:

  • GetBucks Kenya (now regulated)
  • Platinum Credit (microfinance, now CRB-compliant)
  • MyCredit (licensed DCP)
  • Faulu Microfinance Bank (always reported; now more strictly)

If you defaulted on any of these prior to 2022, your data may be on file — especially if the lender was a licensed bank or MFI at the time.

Apps to Avoid: Unlicensed Lenders

Warning: Unlicensed lending apps — those without a CBK DCP licence — are illegal in Kenya as of 2022. They may still access your contacts, harass you in case of default, and even submit false data to CRBs. Avoid any app not listed on the CBK's official digital credit provider register.

Always verify a lender's licence at cbk.go.ke before borrowing.

How to Check If a Lender Has Listed You

The only way to know for certain if any of the lenders above has submitted a negative (or positive) entry is to run a full CRB report. Your report shows every lender account, its status, and whether any NPL flag exists.

We recommend checking your CRB report:

  • Before applying for any loan
  • After fully repaying a digital loan
  • Every 6 months as routine financial hygiene
